Studio Policies - updated August 2021
These simple guidelines are what keep my studio running smoothly, effectively and ensure that all students receive the equal attention they deserve. Following guidelines from ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Associations) these are my policies to ensure a dependable and Vibrant music studio for you.
Teaching Schedule
Lessons are scheduled at a mutually agreed time when the student begins and at the commencement of each academic year thereafter. The lesson Schedule normally cannot be changed during the semester
- Semesters - September to June (10 months) and July to August (2 months).
- Breaks – 2 weeks during the Christmas Holidays and 1 week during March Break.
- Yearly calendar - events with important dates posted separately.
Lesson Fees
My studio runs like a private school. Tuition remains the same each month and is based on enrollment, not attendance, reserving your child’s exclusive lesson time throughout the year. Your fee also pays for lesson planning, 30 years of Experience, continued High results with all exam students, Professional Development membership fees – ORMTA, Vibrant Music Teachers, Tim Topham Certifications. Hours every month spent connecting with teachers all over the world through teacher forums, Webinars and reading blogs.
Monthly Fee - paid in advance, in equal installments for 10 months of the year. This payment amount is divided evenly between the 10 months. The tuition fee is the same whether there are 5 or 2 lessons in each month. Fees vary for length of lesson.
Fees include 38 lessons across the academic year. (September – June)
Summer lessons are paid separately.
Payment methods - in order of student and teacher preference, I offer –
- pre-Authorized debit
- Interact email transfer
- PayPal
Registration fee – new students pay an initial registration fee of $20 ($25 in total if registering more than one student).
Other costs –
- Books - you can buy directly yourself with my guidance or buy from me.
- Exams – book through the RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music)
- Recitals - a small cost depending on number of attendees.
Missed Lessons
The guidelines from ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Associations) suggest that private Music teachers do not give makeup lessons just like any other extra-curricular business, but I understand how life can get hectic or the unexpected happens.
One week’s notice will allow a student to have a recorded lesson sent home in the event of a missed lesson. This will be done during their scheduled lesson time then sent home for the student to review at a time convenient to them.
Students who are in group lessons will get their lesson sent later in the week when I get time to record that lesson.
My Music Staff
I use My Music Staff (MMS), which is an online system that manages all lessons. Each student is given a password with access to the online calendar where you can see your future lessons and find the link for zoom online lessons. It also holds your contact details and tracks payments. This system sends lesson reminders, invoices, invoice reminders, and more. I ask that all students use and become familiar with this system. MMS will always be the final record of when lessons are booked to take place.
Punctuality
I ask that all students are ready for their lesson on time. The lesson will always start and end at the agreed time.
Practice and parent involvement
It is very important to me that parents are involved with the progress of each student and in particular, to make sure that sufficient practice is done at home. Some kids need reminders, some don’t. All parents are welcome to attend lessons, when needed I will request a parent to attend. Feel free to ask questions at any time.
Contact between lessons
I will always be available to answer questions and I encourage students to send me texts/pictures of what they are need help with. I will do my best to reply within 24 hours.
Cancelling lessons
I require 2 months notice to completely cancel lessons without charge.
Thank you for choosing Tara Lund Music School and for beginning the amazing journey of Music learning.
